Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to 1X Bio News, the biological sciences news source for everyone and anyone.  Maybe you're a science enthusiast who thinks there's not enough biological science in the regular news sources.  Perhaps you're a science-lover whose quest for knowledge is insatiable.  Have you always been interested in biology but never had the chance to learn the background?  Well then, this is the blog for you!  Even if you hate science and just want to leave disparaging remarks at the bottom of the page, I'm glad you clicked on the link that brought you to my site.  At any rate, I'll be doing my best to round up the interesting news, provide a little background info, and maybe give it a slightly editorial spin.  My main hope is that by reading this blog, you get into thinking about, talking about, or simply acquiring a tolerance for the biological sciences.

For those of you who are wondering, "What is the deal with the title of this blog?" I will provide a brief explanation.  In a science laboratory, chemical solutions, especially buffers, are frequently made in concentrated form.  These concentrated forms are labeled "10X" or "5X" to indicate that they are ten or five times concentrated, respectively.  Before using these chemical solutions, they must be diluted to a "working concentration" which is usually referred to as "1X."  This blog has a similar principle:  I read the "10X" news and then give it to you in "1X" form.  Enjoy!
